Damh-inis
Devenish
Damh-inis (stag-island) is an island in Lough
Erne and site of a monastery of St Molaise.
The English title of the cumha, the
'Lamentation of Youths', probably refers to
the grandsons of Fedach mac Daill.
According to legend, they killed each other in
a dispute over who should inherit the island.
Molaise buried them, and a shrine and crozier
was made from the warriors' gold and silver
accoutrements.
The only survivor, Flann ó Fedaich, ran away
with Beagfhola, consort of ardrí Diarmaid mac
Aodha Sláine, who reigned from 642-664AD.
